EARLY FATTENING OF ANIMALS.
It is q'iite as important to fatten and market economically the animal produots o£ the farm as it is to raise them. A pound of beef, pork, or poultry can be made much cheaper in Beptombsr and October than later in the season, when a large parj; cf the rations must go to keep up animal beat. There is no sleight of hand in laying fat upon an animal** carcase. It must came out of good honest food in the rations fed. The temperature in the letter part of summer and early autumn, is in favor of the best use of all the fattening articles of food, while there is enough of green food to sharpen the appetite, and keep up good digestion. We have found green corn stalks, especially sweet com, &n excellent article in the stye, to be fed is connection with corn on the cob, and asm meal, and other rations. We bave never seen pork made more rapidly than with this kind of feeding. It will be sa'e to fted all that the swine will eat up cleaa, and no more. Slack up the feed a lit'.la when anything is left in the trough. This will require a little attention, but tbo pigs will grow so fast that one can afford £3 finger by the stye a few minutes, enco in « d*y, to see the f t accumulate. : Corn is high this season, and we wa&t to make the bejt uta o£ it. The best poultry men we know begia to give extra feed in September, when thry mean to kill in November. The 'Thanksgiving market is pretty sure to be a good ons ; and brings ready cash. The small potatoes bailed, and mixed with Indian meal and hot wafer, make an eicellert fe:d forfcurktya and oih;r poultry. This favors growth as wt-Il a faitacing. The rations of corn and other grain, ungrennd, may ba reserved to the last few weeks of life. Turkeys should have their liberty ell through the extra feeding. Some poultrymen shut up their geeso atd ducks, but we doabt the eoonomy of the method. With a good run, they will have a greater variety of food, and thrive better with an sccess to pasture, with pond or brock, while they are receiving full feed for market. Alt '.hai the fattening animals will cat up olean is a good rule for the la»t month ol feeding.
