[REUTER'S telegrams.] Received October 23rd, 12.15 p.m. SYDNEY, October 23. Arrived Last evening, steamship Manapouri, from Auckland. Heavy rain is falling, extending throughout the colony. It is doing incalculable, good, and ia reviving the &opes of squatters and farmers.
MELBOURNE, October 23.
Tho Marquis o£ Normanby received a telegram yesterday announcing tho death of his mother, tho Dowager Marchioness of Normanby, at tho age of 84.
Received October 23rd, 2 p.m. The schooner Tarra, bound from Newcastle to Melbourne, became a total wreck at three o’clock this morning, all on board being saved. The death is announced of Mr J. P. Hydes, the well-known comedian.
