NORTH CANTERBURY RACECOURSE, The course on the Eangiora Domain for the approaching races (on Thursday next) has been put into thorough order by harrowing and rolling. The arrangements for the racing having thus been greatly improved, it was decided to make better accommodation for the public, and by a very satisfactory arrangement with tho Domain Board a grand stand has been erected, which commands a complete view over the whole course. This is placed on the terrace near the side of last year’s saddling paddock. It is a structure substantially built of wood and thoroughly well finished by tbo contractors, Messrs Boyd and Keir. The stand covers an area of 20ft by 30ft, and rises to a height of 14ft at the back and Oft in front, with seats sloping on the top. The seats are gained by a well erected stairway, and around the top ot the stand is placed a strong railing. Under the stand is a weighing and jockeys’ room, _ a stewards’ room, and a refreshment bar, which are convenient and well placed. In front of the stand is an enclosed ladle-’ lawn. To the left is tho saddling paddock, the enclosure of which has been enlarged, with an entrance to the course as well as to the stand. Tho Domain Board deserve great credit for their enterprise in erecting a building which will, upon any public occasion, be available to the pnblio at a reasonable charge, and the investment of £loo on the part of the Board in this way should yield a handsome return.
