MnaiOAii.—A new and varied programme will be performed by tho City Guards Baud, - this evening, opposite His Lordship's Larder, in Lichfield street, commencing at seven o'clock. Cabmen’s Protection Society.—A reunion in connection with the above society took place last evening at the City Hotel. About thirty-two members were present, and hisWorship tho Mayor occupied the chair, cupported on bi« left by Mr John Holmes, the solicitor of the society, the vice-chair was occupied by Air Vole, tbe president. After ample justice bad been done to tbe good things provided by host Cooksoa, the Mayor proposed the health of ‘ 1 The Queen,” which wai duly honored. She Vice-chairman proposed “Tho General Assembly," coupled with the name of Mr Holmes, who, in a vary eloquent epeech, responded, Mr Brooker, in a very neat speech, proposed “His Worship the Mayor and City ■. ouncil.” Kis Worship had conferred a great honor upon them by being present at their reunion. ir)e thought the Mayor and City Council had the interest of tbe cabmen at heart, and that any grievance they bad, if they mada proper representation, would be sure to bo. rectified. His Worship thanked them for the manner in which they had drunk his health. It gave him great pleasure to be present, also to hear testimony to the fact that Christchurch could produce some of the finest turn outs this side of tbe lino. Mr Howard proposed “1 ha Cabmen’s Society,” coupled with the name of tha secretary, Mr Thomas, who responded Tha Secretary proposed “ Tho Solicitor to tha Society, Mr Holc.cs," who responded The heaHh of Mr McLellan, who was leaving Christchurch, was proposed by Mr Hamilton, and duly honored. Tho fo'lowing toasts were also given;—“Tha Press, ” •' The Ladies," “Tho President,” “The Kx-President,” “Tha Secretary,” and “Onr J-lcst,” the company breaking up at twelve o'clock, having spent a ve;y pleasant evening. Dispute Between Theatricals —Tha Byronic Comedy Company which was to have left by the Arawata yesterday for Wellington left only in part. Just before the steamer cast iff from tho wharf Mr Wiilmott and Mr Hall engaged in a rather warm debate, during which Mr Wiilmott declared that having lost .£BOO producing the “ (inv’nor, ” he declined to farther proceed. The inrgago of the troupe was at the moment being transferred from the railway truck to tha eteamer, and Mr Wiilmott endeavored to rtop that very common-plaoa undertaking, while Mr Hail did his best to promote it, and oncccodsd very considerably in doing so. He marshal ed such of his henchmen as remained true to him, and got most of tha luggage belonging to those of the company who went with him to Wellington and of those who remained behind, and who cay be described as the Wiilmott party. As the steamer m-.ved off, tho voices of Mr Wiilmott and Mr Hall were heard several notes higher than is usual with pa-ting friends, the explanation of which is found in the fact that Mr Wiilmott was declaring that Mr Hall should not produce the “ Guv'nor ” in tha Empire City, and that he woald “ pull him : ” while Mr Hall was answering “All right, Wiilmott, come to Wellington on Saturday.” Inquest.—An inquiry, touching the death of Kate Whe'in, an inimte cf tha Suunyside Asylum, wss held yesterday at that institution before Dr. Coward, coroner. From thj evidence adduced it appeared that deceased was admitted to tha Asylum about two years since iu a bad state of health, and that she cied in convulsions on tha 18th October. The jury returned a verdict of death from natural causes. The Phillipstown Bazaar.—The rain o£ last evening miitaied somewhat against tha attendance at this br.z mr, consequently the results of the day were not so good as ihs claims of tha parish end the really excellent display of novelties demanded. This ia the cloeing day, and those interested hope that a more oommaasniato share of public patronage will be accorded to it than has been the case hitherto.
Fbiendly Societies’ Fetb.— k meeting of this commutes waa held on Thursday even* ing._ The secretary reported on his actions during the past fortnight, and it waa resolved that the came be approved. Ihe meeting resolved to meet for the future in the Oddfellows’ Chambers, Lichfield street. The secretary was ordered to write to tbs donors of prizes last year, and the meeting adj jnratd for a fortnight, ■''is lodges sent iu notice of taking a part in the fete, and the secretary was instructed to write to the Addington Lodge, 1.0.0. J? , M.U., the same having been opened since the last meeting.
U.A 0.D., Athelstan Lodge, Fo. 112, The usual fortnightly meeting of the above Lodge waa held in the Royal George Hotel, East belt, on Monday evening last, the A.D., Bro. P. W. Patter, presiding. There was ft largo attendance of the members, also of visitors from the various ledges in the Order. A considerable amount of business w.s transacted, after which the Lodge adjourned for harmony, when a pleasant halt hour was spent. After a hearty vote of thanks to the visitors for their attendance, the Lodge was closed in due form by the A D. The Lath Colonel Packe.—Ey n district order issued by Al> jor T.ean, commanding the district, all officers of volunteers will wear mourning for one month as a mark of respect for (Le late Colonel Packe.

At the Oxford terrace Baptist Ohnroh the Ber.C. Dallaston commence* the first of a series of sermons on baptism, at 6,30 p.m,— At St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church the Her. Mr Blmslio will conduct a'funeral service in the morning, having special reference to several prominent Presbyterian* lately deceased.—The onniversay services, in connection, with, the Congregational Sunday school at Phillipstown also takes place tomorrow, when sermons will be preached in the morning by the Bev. Mr Taylor, and in the evening by Mr Lewi*. Timbbb and Coal Merchants’ employes are notified elsewhere of a meeting to take place at the Broadway Market on Tuesday evening next. Beioklaxbes. —A summoned meeting of the Lodge of Bricklayers is announced for Monday evening next in the Temperance Hall, Gloucester street, to arrange for picnic, rules, and other bntiness. Found Dbownbd. brought to the Police Depot about three o’clock this afternoon, that the body of a man was lying in the river near the Domain bridge. Sergeant Wilson and a constable have gone to recover the body.
