THE FUNERAL OF THE LATE COLONEL PACKS.
The funeral of this much respected officer took place at tho Eioeartou Cemetery this afternoon. At 12 30 p.m. a number of the Yoluntecrs froth tho Christchurch, Lyttelton and neighboring corps mustered for parade at tho Drill Shed. The City Q-uardr, Artillery and Lyttelton Naval Brigade were all there in large force, and left for Bioosrton at one o’clock, the Yeomanry Cavalry following shortly after. Contingents from Ashburton, and still further South, were present on tho mournful occasion, A number of gentlemen who formerly belonged to tho old No. 2 Company, of which the deceased officer was at one time captain, went up by omnibus, which started from Messrs Harman and Stevens’ office. They were, besides a large number of well-known faces at tho funeral, desirous of showing their sorrow and respect for the deceased. All the flags in the city were hoisted half-mast high.
