A man named Hans Sporr Neilson, a Scandinavian, committed suicide by tying flax to a fencing pole, and stooping down tightning the cord, thus strangling himself. WELLINGTON, October 19. Miss Martha Hamilton, formerly assistantmistress of the Girls’ High School, Christchurch, has been appointed Lady Principal to the Girls’ High School, Welli-igr-on. A petition was presented to the ActingGovernor this morning, praying for a remission of tbe sentence passed on two young persons for indecent behaviour in the Botanical Gardena. The father of the lad arrived from Wanganui yesterday to interview the Minister of Justice on the subject. DUNEDIN, October 19.
At the City Court, Mr Weldon intimated that he would not proceed with the charge of attempted suicide preferred against Jane Gray, on account of her low nervous state. She had been permitted to go to her home. At the Education Board meeting to-day, Mr A. O. Begg resigned his membership of the Normal School committee, because the Board had reappointed Mr Funis to that school.
