Mr Bing, seconded by Archdeacon Edwards, affirming the desirabily of a school for girls being established ia connection with the Church of England. The mover stated that his special reason for bringing the motion forward was that the practice of sending girls to the Roman Catholic convent schools, as is largely followed in Dunedin, might be obviated. It was stated that some twelve eases were known in which girls had been proselytised to Boman Catholicism whilst attending these schools. All the speakers concurred in the opinion that the influence, direct or indirect, must be exercised towards proselytising in such schools, according to the well known tenets of the Boman Catholic Church. The motion was carried, and a committee was appointed to take steps to carry it out _ A motion was also carried affirming the desirability of doing away with the 10s fee for performing the marriage ceremony. The only brig Wave which has left Dunedin arrived safely at Hokianga on Saturday.
