Dbttnebnnbib.—The following cares w sre dealt with :—H. H&Bkett, who, having boen on bail, oame up drunk, was remanded till Tuesday. For first offenoes, six men wnre eaoh fined ss. Thomas Beeoe, who had been at Addicgton seven days for medioal treatment, was ordered to pay 10s 6i for his maintenance while in gaol, and was discharged. Illegally on Pbhmiseb.—Alfred Bhaw, alias Biohard Cavendish, pleaded guilty to being found in an empty house in Gaihel street on Sunday night. He said he was drunk and had gone in for shelter. He was cautioned and dismissed. Fighting. James McKay and Jimes Lynch were charged with being drunk and committing a breaoh of the peaoe near the City Hotel at midnight on Saturday. The row appeared to havo ariton in consequenoe of a praotical joke. McKay was fined £1 ss, and Lynob 10b. Allbgbd Bueglahy.—John McOallum was charged with breaking into a shop occupied by his brother, M. MoCallum, and stealing therefrom jewellery, a watchmaker's vyoe, and other articles, valued at £3l, on Thursday last. On the applioation of the police he was remanded till Ootober 19ch. Bathing in Public—W. Cook, James Todd, James Comer, John Shea, Charles Garrigan, and John Garty, youths ranging in age from about fourteen to eighteen years, were charged with having, on Sunday, October Ist, bathed in the Heathcote Biver at about eleven o'clcok in the forenoon. They were within view of a thoroughfare, and their conduct was alleged to be offensive to dcoenoy. Mr Holmes and Mr Thomas volunteered to defend the accused. Constable MoGill deposed to having found the young men-bathing not far from some houses , at Opawa. They were in full view from a road five chains dutant, and might have been seen from at least one house. The place has been used as a bathing place for some years, but lately oomplaints having been made to the police and to the Boid Board, the present aotion had been taken. The offenoe not being a ftegrant one, the boys were discharged, the Bench informing them that if they wished to bathe between the hours of eight o'olook ij the morning and eight in the evening thoy would have to do so in proper costume, or they would be brought up again. A Savaqb.—D. Gillespie was oharged with maliciously damaging private property and with using indecent language. Defendant did not appear; J. J. Matthews, crossingkeeper on the railway near Addington, stated that, on Ootober 2nd, defendant attempted to pass along the line; witness objeoted to this, and defendant then flew at witness, swearing horribly. Ho then tore the most of witness' trousers off, struck him over the head several times with a carpet-bag he was carrying, and seized him by the wrist with his teeth, inflicting a severe bite. He afterwards went on to the Addington platform and indulged in the most beastly language within the bearing of several females. Ho wss fined £1 for the asianl; and £4 for using obsoene language. Miscellaneous. —Jos. Aiken, for furiously riding a horse on the North town belt on Sunday, Ootober Bth, was fined £1 and costs, —Andrew Donoghue, for allowing a horse to irander, was fined 5s. —W. H. Tuoker was shargod with cruolly illtreating a horse by lalloping it in harness, and flagging it brutally ha while. Mr Izard appeared to prosecute. Che offence took place in Colombo road on ' September 25th, and was spoken to by two witnesses. Accused was fined £l, expenses ' )f one witness 6i, and oosts of Court, —Maria Birkle and Mary Ann Barrett, who had been >rdered to pay Is per week towards the mpport of their mother, but who i lad not only failed to do bo, but lad neglected to come up and explain the -eason of their failure, were now dealt with is follows': The police to speoially warn them ;o attend next Monday; if they did not ittend and pay up, they are to be sent to gaol. > —E. Wheeler, for making use of an improper ■ jloaot pan, was fined lOi.—Another information, laid by the Board of Health's inspeotor, ' marging E. Wheeler with permitting iefective drainage- on his premises, was adjourned till October 23rd.—A case of alleged wilful and malicious damage to property tgainst S. S. Noall, was adj mrned till Ootober 23rd.—George Brown, for assaulting Henry Dodds on Ootober 7th, was fined £l, solicitor's fee £1 Is, expenses of two witlosses 15s, and the costs of the Court.
