Among the through passengers by the Zealandia for San Francisco are Morris and Groonwall, of the Quintette Club, who go to America to bring back farther novelties; also the Bev. J. O. Connolly, has consented to join the Government, and to take office as Minister of Justice, As this will relieve the Hon, T, Dick of one of his offices, it is intended that he shall take the Postmaster - Generalship and the Bleotrio Telegraph Commissionership, so that the Hon. W. Johnston will be able to devote himself wholly to the Public Works Department. The breach of promise case Sweenoy v Laybourne concluded at 6 30 this evening, the jury finding for the plaintiff, and awarding £25 damages. The amount claimed was £2OOO HOKITIKA, October 10. The first supply race of the Humphrey Gully Gold Mining Co. is now completed. O’Neill’s party of three men adjoining company’s lease, in opening up their tail race have struck splendid gold, having washed 20 ounces gold for a week’s work. The Totara Company, adjoining the Boss Gold Mining Company’s ground, are getting excellent prospects in the trial shaft now being sunk. The erection of the hydraulic engines lor the Ross Gold Mining Company is rapidly approaching completion, and sinking operations will be resumed immediately. DUNEDIN, October 10. The Zealandia, which arrived from London to-day, after a passage of eighty-four days :rom land to land, experienced terrific weather while crossing the Southern Ocean. She comes into port with the front of the saloon smashed in, and the loss of her poop ladders, part of her bulwarks, her forecastle, and head rails. The seamen were washed cut of the forecastle, and their chests carried overboard.

Bishop Neville, in hia opening address fit the Synod to-day, referred at tome length to to the question of effecting a union between the Wesloyans end Episcopalians in Otago, and expressed the hope that at no distant day this would come to papa. Watson Bros, have received some of Snana’s incandescent lamps by the Manapouri, and intend fitting them up in their hotel, giving the electric light a thorough trial as to cost in comparison with gas.
