WOOLSTON TOWN DISTRICT.
An ordinary mooting of the Commissioner® of tha 'Woolstou town district waa held last evening st seven o’clock, in the Wools o-< public library. P/arenb —Messrs J, H. Hopkins (chairman), T. York, R. 8. McDiarmid, G. Tics nor, X, O’Neill, J. Coles, and J. Attwood. TLo Chairman stated bo had received a letter from the Hcachcote Road Board re .be *1 locution of toe property between the Woo’ston Distriut and the Heathcote Hoad Board, stating that it was proposed to realise the joint property by auction on or about the 20th October, after which the finance between the Board and the District could be adjusted. The chairman of the Dower Eeathooto library committee would give the ur.e of tbs library for the msetings of the Commiaiionors at a cost of 5s each evening. The first business for consideration would be the consideration of Mr 3. Manning’s letter as to the terms and conditions on which private roads will be taken over by the Commissioners. Mr B. S. McDiamid moved—" That no roads bo taken over less than three-quarters of a chain in width j and all road# from vendors of property to bo properly formed and metalled, and that the levels and the metal bo approved of by the Commissioners or their surveyor. ” Mr Q-. Tioknor seconded the resolution. Mr O'Neill would propose an amendment to the effect—“ That any owner of twenty or forty acres of land, wishing to ont it np for talc in quarter-acre sections shad form and make the roads, and the Commissioners will take them over.”
Hr Attwood seconded the amendment. Messrs York and Ooles spoke in favor of tha motion, which, after remarks by the chairman, was put to the vote and declared carried by 4 to 2. The Chairman suggested that tenders be called, or day labor employed, to keep the roads and drains of the district in order for, say, three months, or to tho 31st Dacembar. , Mr York proposed, and Mr McDiarmid seconded—" That the work be done by day labor to the end of the year nnder the superintendence of tho works committee.”
Mr O'Neill proposed a# an amendment — " That tho committee look round the district in order to draw up the specifications, to call for tenders to keep the roads and draii s in order.”
The resolution was carried by 4 to 3. M.r Ooles was elected treasurer to the Commission.
On the suggestion of the chairman, Mr McDiarmid proposed and Mr Coles seconded —“That the chairman write to the Selwyn County Council for the proportion of licenses and other fees received from the Wools ton district for the portion of 1882 that the town district has been formed." He would also suggest that same body be asked to allow the town district to get stone from tho Sumner road.
The motion was agreed to. Tho following committees were appointed, viz :
Work# Messrs Tioknor, O’Neill, and Sorb.
Finance Messrs Attwood, Coles, and McDiarmid.
This was all the business, and the com mittee adjourned till October 19th, at 7 p.m.
