HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The usual meeting of the Board was held at 4 p.m. yesterday. Present—His Worship the Mayor of Ohriatohuroh (in the ohair), the Mayor of Sydenham, Dr. Prins, Mr Montgomery. A letter was read from tho Government, approving of the expenditure of £6O on the repairi of verandah, &a., at the Armagh street depot. The Hospital committee reported that daring the fortnight ending 30th September, thirty-six patients wore admitted into the Hospital, and twenty, eight discharged, leaving sixty-one patients in the institution. During the same period there were six deaths. For the corresponding period of last year, the number of patients in the Hospital was sixty-six. The committee beg to acknowledge the receipt cf 12s through the Besident Magistrate's Court, being witness's expenses allowed to Mr Victor in case of Nathan v Harris and Lcuisson, and given by him to the Hospital funds. The Mayor of Sydenham drew attention to the Biocarton drain passing the Hospital, and suggested that the matter should be referred to the Hospital committee. He thought perhaps the best method of dealing with it would be to have some artesian wells sunk to flash tho drain. It was resolved that the matter be referred to the Hospital committee with power to aofc. A letter was read from Mr Bnscell, the secretary of the City Guards band, asking leave to give open-air concerts in the grounds of the Hospital, for the benefit of the patients, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. It was agreed to refer the letter to the Hospital committee with power to aot. The returns of the Akaroa Hospital were read, showing that there wore three patients in the institution. In the casual ward there were no patients. Tho report of the late master of tho Orphanage was read, stating that £33 2a 4i had been received on aooount of the institution for September. The Mayor of Sydenham reported that the new master r,nd mistress, Mr and Mtß Bitehie, had taken charge of the Orphanage, The number of inmates in the Orphanage was stated as being forty-seven boys and thirty-seven girls. Two invalid chairs were directed to be supplied to the Old Hen's Home, Ashburton, on the recommendation of the master of the Home. After disposing of Boveral charitable aid casfß the Board adjourned.
