THE PAST RACING SEASON.
“ Pegasus.” the; oporting contributor of the Dunedin “Evening titor,"published last week his usual review of the past racing season. The first table shows the number of rr.ee meetings held and the amount of added money given by the Jockey Club in each province. The total amount of added money whs £47,164, divided over 230 meetings. Auckland heads the list of provinces in number of meetings and amount of added money —■ namely, sixty-five meetings, £10,727. Canterbury comes; next with thirty-seven meetingo and £8586 in added money, followed by Otago, fiftythree and £B7IO ; Wellington, thirty-throe and £8683 ; Hawke’s B*y, seventeen, and £4612; Taranaki, seven, and £1585; Westland. four, »nd £1255 ; Kelson, eight, and £1262; Marlborough, five, and £Bl3 ; and lastly comra the Grand Nationa, Steeplechase of one meeting, with £640 added money. The above shows an increase over the prsvinus season of twenty-two meetings, of £5820 in added money, moat of which is due to Auckland and Wellington. Every province show* an increase, except- Westland, which has fallen off by £150.1? The Canterbury Jockey Club, with its two meetings, shows the largest amount of added money, viz., £3570. Then comes the Otago Jockey Club, with three meetings and £2925 in added money, Auckland, with two meetings and £2806 added money. Wanganui, with three meetings and £2420 added money. Hawke’s Boy J. 0., throe meetings and £2215 added money. Wellington, two meetings and £1535 added money, Titcaru, two meetings, £1045. Oamaru, three meetings, and £1025 added money, &o. The principal winning owners ore shown as follow-;—The lata Mr W. Walters heads the list with £3228, Messrs Hobiuaon and Lance come next with £2580. followed by Messrs Hereford. £1655 ; Lunn, £1300; G- Bate, £1150; Hon. M’Lean, £1145; P. Butler, £IO2O, and D. O’Brien, £ICO2 and so on, mentioning twenty owners who divided between them £21,185, which leaves about £26,0C0 divided among smaller winners. Grip, with his three victories last spring, hee.ds the list of winning horses with £1455, followed by Hippodamia (Slander fitly) who started in "twenty-eight races, winning four, teen, and won the sum of £1155. The next to come is Lady Emma, who started fourteen times, won four, and placed to her owner’s credit £IO2O. Clarence comes next with £IO2O. Hs started twenty-four times, and won twelve and unplaced only twice. Then comes the two year-old Nonsense, the undefeated starter of four events, and a winrvoi of £923, and so on.

His oh compeer Bavensworth ranks next with £3200 and then comes Albany with £2278. Thi principal winners by the last named arc— Nonsense, Hilda, and Mischief. The dis tirgaisbed New South Wales tbe Tatter, don takes fourth place with £2183, half c: which was secured by Lady Emma. Tost useful horse Day Davrn hna Bf.cured £2035 with tho aid of twelve known winners, au>< there is no doubt that there are plenty mot; of his stock that have won money, but whose parentage has not been reported at the lira* of running. Slanderer owes Lis £1455 entirely to Grip’s three victories, but Totarab creditable total of £I3BO is due to cloven d his stock. Anteros makes the good show of £1365 by tho assistance of Louie, The Poet, and Canard; but Hippocampus is represented by only one winner—the Blande; filly, who won for him £1155. Five c: Pacific’s stock have secured £IOHS, bub there is little doubt that ho has plenty more winners scattered about tho North Island. St. Alfaana ia credited with £853, won by hie son Tasman ; and Hoad Shot vrith £785, secured by Larry and St. Clair. K-lpie has a couple of winners in Maid of Honor and Kenilworth, who between them won £6fi4, Sator won £621, while Castaway and Oatsmdauuus come nest with a little over £SOO opposite each of their names.”
