At the last meeting of the Oamam Harbor Hoard the secretary showed that a ram of j 843,000 would be required for the completion of the works, including the breakwater, mole, reclamation, and the dredge, and for provision for dredging and wharves. The Board had j&oat .£17,500 in hand, and there therefore remained about J 825.500 to bs raised tomcet the amount required. Steps are to be at once taken with a view of raising the required loan. The pay-sheet of Messrs John Elder and 00., shipbuilders and engineers, Qovau, recently amounted to the enormous sum o£ upwards of J 823.000. The hands are usually paid every fortnight, but on this occasion, owing to the Glasgow “Pair” kotidays, the cash received by each workman was for fifteen days’ labor. At present Messrs Sdar aud Co. give employment to 5600 hands. Such figures afford soma indication of the extraordinary development of the shipbuilding industry on the Clyde. SHIPPING TELEQBAMd.
