CHRISTCHURCH, Satubday, Septehbb* 80. J. Ollivier, R.M., and R. Westerns, Esq., J.P.] Lakobnibs. —Richard Harris, aged about sixteen years, was charged with, and pleaded guilty to, stealing a shirt valued at 2s, the property of Gao, Butler. The parties had been room mates ia a boarding houa-, and tho prisoner had taken the shirt out of prosecutor’s bag, and was found by tho owner wearing it. Sergeant Mason described the boy as a very bad character indeed. In the last throe years he had served one you at Burnham, and three sentences
in gaol two month*, three months, and six month*. His offence* bad been breaking into a ahop and larcenies. Ho now said that he had only borrowed the ehirt whilst he waihed hi* own. He wae sentenced to two month*’ imprisonment with hard labour. Jame* Brooks wa* charged with stealing a hat from the outside of Wal*h andO Connell » drapery shop, Manchester street. Ho had been seen to take the hat, and it was found in his possession. He pleaded that the offence was the result of a drunken and, a* the owner of the hat did not wish to press the charge, a conviction was entered up against him and he woe, discharged. Burnham School Children. Roger Wormelly, aged nine year®, and John hi* brother, aged seven year*, were, on the application of the police, committed to Burnham, each for seven year*, to be brought up m the tenets of the Church of England, it appeared that their mother is dead, and the father, though only earning £1 3* per week, had to pay £1 weekly for the children’s keep. Ho was now ordered to pay 7a per week towaida their maintenance at Burnham.
