WOOLSTON TOWN DISTRICT.

An adjourned meeting of the Commissioners of the Woolston Town District was held at seven o’clock last evening in the Public Library, Woolston. Present—Messrs J. H, Hopkins- (chairman), G. Ticknor, T. York, J. Coles, B. 8. MoDiarmid and J. O’Neill. The Chairman stated that he had received six applications for tho clerkship to the Commission ; that he had applied for tho permanent use of the library to tho library committee, who would consider the same at the next monthly meeting ; that ho had written to the Heathoote Koad Board about the adjustment of the accounts between the Board and the district, also advising that body of the deputation appointed to interview them, but aa yet he had received no reply. He had also written to all the Banka doing business in Christchurch respecting the banking account of the Commission, and had received replies from all but the National Bank of New Zealand and tho Bank of Australasia. He had to direct the. attention of the Commission to the proposed extenaion of tho tramway to the swing bridge, and would ask them to take action re the lowering of that portion of the Ferry road requiring it. He had also written to the Colonial Secretary for copies of the Acts mentioned at the last meeting. Tha applications for tho position of clerk to the Board wore then opened and considered, and that of Mr-E.J. Dean, who offered to fulfil the' duties of the post till December 31st, 1882, for the sum of £5, was accepted. The replies from the various Banks re the Commission’s banking ooconnt were then opened and submitted, and the Colonial Bank was unanimously chosen. A letter was read from Mr S. Manning, asking on what terms new roads would be taken over. After some discussion it was agreed that the matter be considered at the next meeting. of the Commission, but it was considered desirable that no roads should be taken over from any private person lee* than three-quarters of a chain, and, if possible, one chain in width, and that the same be properly formed and metalled. Some discussion then arose respecting the tramway extension and the lowering of tho -Ferry road in connection therewith, and it was decided that the Commission adjourn till eleven o’clock this day (Friday), the Commissioners previously meeting at the Tramway Terminus, near the Steam Wharf, .and go over the route ter the purpose of .arriving at some decision in the matter. The Commission adjourned accordingly.
