YOUNG MEN’S CLUB ASSOCIATION.

An ordinary meeting of the committee of the above association was held last evening at eight o’clock at the Temperance Hotel. Present —His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), l!*e Rev. Dean Jacobs, Messrs Malcolm, Miller, Packer, Hogbon, Joseph, March, and Griffiths (see.) The Secretary reported that the number of members had increased to 101 j that a very successful entertainment had been held oh the previous evening, and that a letter had been received from the Board of Education deferring the committee’e application for the use of the gymnasium until next meeting. A letter was received from Mr Charles Kiver offering to contribute the “ Graphic” to the reading room. The Secretary reported that illustrated papers had also been received from his Worship the Mayor j that Mr March had forwarded a number of books, a blackboard and other useful articles, and that Mr L. Pozii had premised to supply a stamp for the club. It was announced that at a meeting held on the previous evening the members of tha club had decidid to form a cricket club, and had elected their own officers, fixed the amount of ths subscription, and carried ont all the preliminary arrangements without as-cistr-noa from the sub committee. It was resolved, on the motion of the Dean —“ That immediate application bs made to the Domain Board for the use of a practice ground in Hsgley Park. On the motion of Mr March it was resolved—“ That the members of the dab be -rquosttd to elect two of thsir number to ir.fiiet the sab-committee in the management of the club.” Dean Jacobi said the time had now arrived when, owing to the rapid increase which Lad taken place in the numbers of the dub, and which was likely to continue, it sun desirable, in order to prevent any check to the success oi tha institution, that more adequate accommodation should be procured. Che club was no longer an experiment, and ho thought they might confidently appeal to the public for tbo help they needed in this rispoct.—Ks would move —“That a sob-,-;-tnr.'.ittcc, consisting uf his Worship the V .vc-r. and Messrs Packer, Miller, and J :*oph, bo appointed to make inquiries, with ■ha view or procuring larger premises.” The motion was recorded by Mr March oi.d car* led.
