CANTERBURY ATHLETIC CLUB.
A gee oral meeting of the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club wu bald at the Commercial Hotel last night. Present —Messrs Parker, Q. B. Hales, Campbell, Wilding, Ollivier, Robinson, Smith, Acton, F. W. Hales, and others. Mr J. B. Parker occupied the chair.
The election of new members tori plane, and the following were consequently admitted to the club :—P. A, Archer, H. Lance, X. Hogben, J. Thompson, P. Puller, L. H. Labe, A. P. Pigeon, B. A Pigeon, W. A. St/ohe, J. Martin, P. B. Donsford, H White, O, Archer, E. Q. Hawke*, A. O. Siltmarsb, F. G. Bailey, O. J. Mouutfort, F. Putts, u. Hall, and H. P. Fenwick. The treasurer, Mr G. B. Hales, read an interim report of the fir.anci-1 stale of the clnb. There had been struck eff the tali thirty-six names. The receipts had been £93 19* 93, and the expenditure £39 les Sd, leaving a credit balence of £42 15*. The assets ware valued at £133 15s, liabilities £33 15s. There was available for prisa money *IOO. The treasurer also read the programme of sports for the opening of the forthcoming season at Lancaster Park on October 27ch and 2Sth next. The events are similar to those of last season, with the exception of the twomile handicap, the one-mile scratch walking, and the two-mile running races, which had been altered or omitted. It waa proposed by Mr P. W. Hale;, and seconded by Mr Robinson —That the two mile handicap bicycle race ahould be struck oat.”
After some discussion, and on bring put to the vole, it was the opinion of thu meeting that the action of the committee should not be interfered with. The programme s* read was then adopted. It was proposed by Mr Robinson and seconded and carried —** That a ball to celebrate the opening of the season be given by the club on the evening of Monday, October 30th,” and a ball committee was duly appointed to carry ont the same. Mr F. Wilding gave notice for tbe autamn meeting that he would move for alterations in the rules so es to place the election of new members in the hands of the committee, instead of as at present leaving their election to a general meeting. This was all the business, and the meeting terminated with the uvnsl vote of thank* to the chairman.
