THE VOLUNTEER FORCE.
[BY TBLBQ3APH.] [FBOM THE "PBBBS."] WELLINGTON, Feptember 23. It is rumored, and apparently on very good authority, that arrangements _are_ now iu progvess for the complete raorganisaticn of the Volunteer force of the oolony, and in a few weeks many of the companies at present in existence will be defunot. It is stated that for a considerable time past a large number of the oorps have been in anything but an effioient state, although drawing considerable Bums of money out of the Colonial exchequor as capitation allowances, and in order to place the force on a more satisfactory bads arrangements are now proceeding for its complete reorganisation. The various Naval Brigades throughout New Zealand aro, it is said, to be styled " Boyal Artillery oorps," and are to number in point of seniority. The maximum number of men in eaoh corps to be ferty-threo. All the corps are to be efficiently equipped and draw oapitation at the rate now in vogue. It is understood to be further intended to plaoe the Naval Brigade in charge of tho torpedo defences and permanent batteries, and to station them on the right of the line.
