Disobeying an Cedes o* Court.— Anthony Ferrick, brought up on warrant, was charged with neglecting to obey an order of the Coart to contribute 5s per wsrh toward* the support of hi* children at Burnham. When arrested he told Sergeant Mason he would go to gaol rather than pay. He was sentenced to he imprisoned for one month, with hard labor. Obscene Language.—Abdul, a Bengalee, woe fined £2, or to be imprisoned lor fortyeight hours, for uting obscene language in High street. Violent Assault. Stephen South waa charged as above. Michael Lynch, who appeared with his head in a surgict.l bandage, deposed that this morning about nine o’clock, while working on the drainage worke, Oxford, terrace, the prisoner came up, and without aaying anything struck him. S wcj knocked on to a heap of gravel senseless, and cn coming to himself found he cud received a deep wound over the right eye. and some smaller cuts about the face. The constable who arrest, d prisoner said ho had admitted striking Lynch, who, he raid, deprived what he get. la defence he stated that he had been working at Wtiraate. Ha came to Christchurch in consequence of the receipt of a telegram. Oa arrival his wife told him that South bad insulted her. Prisoner went and apofce eo South, who immediately s'rack him, upon vhioh prisoner retaliated. Thera was no corroboration to this story, t.nd the prieoner wes sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, with hard labor.
