CRICKET.
The annual general meeting of the Styx club, which was well attended, took place on Monday evening, the 18th inst., in the North road District Schoolroom. Mr Thos. O. Moorehouse, president, in the chair. Several apologies for non attendance were read. Mr James Ooohran, hon. sec., read the annual report end statement of accounts. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers. The following officers were unanimously elected for the ensuing year : —Thos. O. Moorehouse, Esq, president ; Mr B. Morgan, secretary; Mr H. Tisoh, treasurer ; Mr Davie, captain ; committee—Messrs Nioholls, Chaney, Thos. Wilson, Cochran, and the officers of the club. It was resolved to have the opening day on Saturday, the 23.-d September, at 2 p.m. The meeting terminated with a hearty vote of thanks to the president, Mr Moorehouse, for the encouragement he had given to cricket, and the interest he has taken in the affairs of tho club.
The annua] .meeting of the Kaiapoi United Cricket Club, to pase accounts and elect officers, was held at Burnip’e Hotel on Thursday week. There were twentyfive present. Mr B. Moore was voted to the chair. A short report was read, and the balance-sheet showed 5a 41 in band. It was resolved that the annual subscription in future bo 103, and that any member proposing a new member pay either the subioription or a deposit on account of ss. The sub-com-mittee appointed to obtain a ground reported that arrangements had been concluded with Messrs Lynskey and Burnip for the use of two sections, and that a tender had been accepted for levelling and making the pitch. It was stated that Mr J. Hurse intended to allow the club the use of ground near the Domain as scon as it was in order for playing on, an announcement which was received with applause. The officers of the club elected were—President, Mr J. Hurco; vice-presidents, Messrs B. Moore and J. Webster ; treasurer, Mr W. Fraser; secretary, Mr H. 801 l ; captain, Mr W. Waring; vice-captain, Mr A. Pearce; custodian, Mr W. Burnip ; committee, Messrs Burnip, Hirst, O. Bradley, Brooke, and O. Hayman. A committee was detailed to purchase material for the club, and it was agreed that the opening game bo played on Saturday, 23rd inst., Married v Single. A unanimous vote of thanks to Mr B. Parnham for the use of his paddock last season was passed. An offer of a bat for the highest average scorer in the matches of the season «as made on behalf of Mr J. Uowthion Wilson, and of a ball by Mr B. Moore for the best average bowler.
