The Ulemas have promised to use their utmost influence to allay the spirit of fanaticism which has been aroused among a large section of the Mahommedan population. Received September 21st, 12.30 p.m. LONDON, September 20, 6.27 a.m. The Porte exhibits the utmost disinclination to commit itself to any definite policy in Egypt until England has announced what its intentions are. Italy has withdrawn from the protectorate of the Suez Canal on England intimating that she is quite prepared to provide for its protection.
