MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

CHRIS i’OH ÜBOS,

The polling for the North-west ward yesterday excited little or no interest, as will be seen by the numbers polled for each candidate, only a small proportion of those on the roll voted. The candidates were Messrs Prndhoe, Grand, and H. Atkinson. The result was as follows : Prndhoe Grand Atkinson

~ 153 ~ 147 . 59

Mr Thomas Prudhoo has therefore been elected to fill the vacancy for the North-west ward in the City Council.

ST. ALBANS.

The polling for the election of three councillors for this borough took place yesterday. The retiring councillors were Messrs Turner, Matson, and Dickenson, who again sought the suffrages of the burgesses, in addition to whom were Messrs B. Green, A. Moore, and F. Smith. Among “ tickets” the Wey-burne-Fyfe-Dimond one appeared to be “in the running.” As the day wore on interest gained in intensity, and the sanctity of the Gaming and Lotteries Act was in danger of being violated, if indeed it can be with certainty said to have escaped. Soon after 7 p.m. Mr Fred. Gibson, the returning officer, declared the outcome of the day’s labors, predictions, hopes, votes, doubts, and aspirations to be as under Mr B. Weybnrne ... 213 Mr J. G.
