WOOLSTON TOWN DISTRICT.
The polling for the election of seven members to oonsitute the first Woolston Town Oounoil took plaoe yesterday at the Lower Heathoote Library. Great interest was taken in the event during the day. Twelve candidates were nominated. The poll opened at 9 a.m., and was closed at 6 p.m., when about seventy persons, anxious to learn the result, congregated outside the polling booth. At half-past six the Beturning Officer (Mr W. T. O, Mills) posted the reeult on the Library door as follows : B. S. McDiarmid 62 J. P. O'Neill 54 G. Tioknor ... 50 J. H. Hopkins 46 J. Coles ... ... 43 T. York 41 W. N.Attwood 38 W. Hawker 36 G. Bowron 27 A. R. Pavitt 26 F.B.Hunt 25 A. Dunbar ... 24
The first seven of the above are therefore elected for the office of commission or for the town district of Woolston. The newly - eleoted members returned thanks for the honor conferred upon them, and Mr A. B. Pavitt, one of the unsuccessful candidates, also thanked those who had recorded their votes fa hia favor. A vote of thanks to the Returning Officer terminated the proceedings,
