CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, September 13,
[Before O. Whitefoord, Esq , 8.M., and R Westenra, Esq., J.P.] Drunkenness,—Eliza Wilson, who had only the day before been released from gaol, and who has been a frequent offender, was fined £2, or in default seven days’ imprisonment for being drunk, and Is, besides being ordered to pay 5s for a pane of glass she had broken, or, in default, forty-eight hours’ imprisonment with hard labour, John Hanford and another were fined 5i each, or in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment with hard labour.
Fighting in latimeb Square.—Two boys, aged about fourteen years, were brought up charged with fighting in Latimer square. They pleaded guilty, staling that they worked at Anderson’s Foundry, and, having had a quarrel, they adjourned to the square to “settle it.” His Worship pointed out that they bad no right to disturb the neighbourhood by their quarrels, and they ought to know better than lay themselves open to be arrested and looked up with any kind of disreputable characters. With a few more words of ci.ution, the accused were discharged.
Civil Cases.—Baugh’s trustee v Noall, claim £8 18s 6d, for rent and possession of a cottage ; judgment for plaintiff, defendant being ordered to give up possession of the cottage before September 16th, George’s estate v Wade, claim 13s 6d, for boots supplied ; judgment for defendant, with costs. West v Smith, claim £lO 17s, for wages. Mr Stringer for plaintiff. The ossa was adjourned for fourteen days, on payment by defendant of costs and solicitor’s foe. Wolfe and Lewis v Beatty was adjourned till October 13th ; Blytt vßeetham till September 20th ; Prioe v Bennetts, and Bennetts v Price, till September 19-ih.
