The New Zealand Shipping Company Limited have received cable advice from London ot the arrival of their favorite clipper ship Opawa, from Wellington. All well. . The Government steamer Stella. Capt Fairchild, arrived .esterday morning early from Wellington, and left on the return trip at 12 45 ,m. Messrs W. Langdown have sold the barque Mary Ann Anniaon, now loading at Oamaru for Brisbane, Queensland, with flour, bran, &c., to Messrs MoClatchie and Mcintosh, of this city. Captain Fairchild, as. Stella, when off Pnysegur Point lately, picked np a piece of a ship's poop rail, with part of the brass work still fixed to it. From certain marks about it and a Barity of the brasswork, Mr McClatohie, the stevedore, who know the ship well, and also Captain Galbraith, the pilot, recognised it as a a relic of the fine ship Min-y-don, lost on a voyage from Newcastle to this port. The Hamburg steamer Marsala, now at Port Chalmers for a cargo of frozen meat, is fitted with one of Hicks, Hargreaves and Co.'s refrigerating machines, manufactured at Bolton, Lanca-hire. Ihe moat chamber has a measurement capacity of 1000 tons, and it is expected 8000 earea°es will ba placed in it. From Port Chalmers the steamer goes to Java and thence home via Port Said. Bhe was built by A. Stevens end Co , of Glasgow, this year, and registers 1779 tons. When loaded her draught of water is stated to be 22ft 6in, and is therefore no greater than that of many of the grain oarrying slrps which load alongside the various jetties and piers here. THE THOBNE. The barque Thome, Captain Hatch well, conaigntd to the New Zealand Shipping Company, arrived last evening, cfter a passage of 121 days. The Thorne was 120 days from London. Passenger, Mrs Mann. The Thorna had mode rate trades from 31 deg. north to 8 deg. south, and crossed the line on June 22nd in 32 33 deg. west. The Cape of Good Hope was passed on July 30th in 40 deg. south. She made the easting between 41 and 43 dog. south, and when about the meridian of Kinji George's SouDd, is 41 deg. south, a wall like sea broke aboard that smashed the lifeboat and the bridge, and did oth;r damage on deck. The ■hip's gig was washed overboard, and one of the arew, who was afterwards rescued. Variable weather prevailed thence to the Snares, which was first sighted on the 4th inat., and sines thea slow progress was made along the coast. The ehips spoken were:—Halloween, London to Sydney, in latitude 37' south 10' west; on July 20th, Duncraig, Lyttelton to London, 14 - S, 33 W ; July Ist. Arrived—Pleione.ship, Captain Benaut. from London. &he brings a racing yacht for Messrs Batkin and Stock. During the voyage a heavy sea broke on boar 2, and the yacht was slightly damaged. Timabu, September 11. Arrived —Catlin, from Catlin's Biver. Taiaroa, from the North. With reference to the statement made by the captain of the |Wild Wave at Lyttelton re a vessel being on shore between Catlin's Biver and the Nnggeta on Monday last, Capt. Paterson, of the Annie Bow, i.ow here, states he passed the f pot in company with the! Wild Wave, and that the vessel noticed was a ketch anchored close to. the beach.
