Oonsols have advanced i, and are again quoted at par. Ne - Zealand securities remain at last quotations. The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is £11,000,000, being £12,500 less than the reserve last week. The Bank rate of discount remains at 4 per cont, and the market rate at 31. Adelaide wheat is unchanged at 48s, ex warehouse, and New Zealand ditto at 46s to 48s; Adelaide flour, ex store, 355. Australian tallow—Best beef, 45s 6d j best mutton, 46s 6d.

At the wool sale to-day the catalogue comprised 11,000 bales. Fine sorts in very good demand. Since the opening of the present series 14,000 bales have been withdrawn.

September 8. Arrived—Ship Beemah, from Lyttelton (May 22nd). The majority of the Irish police constables who were dismissed for being promoters in the recent agitation have now been reinstated by Earl Spencer (Lord Lieut.), and have returned to duty.

A force of French marines has been landed at Madagascar to protect French interests. The Democratic Federation has commenced a fresh agitation against Chinese immigration. The " Times" declared Sydney Tawhanga's Maori mission to have been a decided f ailnre, and condemns the Land Association, saying that the creation of a lot of idle annuitants would certainly not remedy the evils complained of by the Natives.

Intelligence is to hand that the difficulty which has existed for some time past between Japan and Corea has now been arranged. Under the terms of settlement the latter kingdom will pay the indemnity which was demanded by the Japanese Government. The cricket match at Scarborough, between the Australian team and eleven of the I Zingari Club was continued today. The Home team, with one wicket down, resumed their first innings, which closed for a total of 270. The AustraHans then commenced their second innings, and at the conclusioa of the day's play had scored 30 for the loss of one wicket.

Sir F. Leighton'a splendid academy groups, " Wedded Tears" and " The Jacobite Proclamation," have been purchased for the Sydney Museum. A Western Australian loan is expected to be placed on the market shortly. The population of Iceland is being decimated by famine and measles.
