LICENSING COMMITTEES.

ST. ALBANS. The quarterly meeting of the above was held at noon to-day. Present Messrs B. J. S, Harman (chairman), H. J. Hall, B. Westenra, and W. H. Lane. TBANSFEK. The Committee confirmed the temporary transfer from Samuel Freeman to John Neill of the license of the Rising Sun. Mr Neill applied also for the extinction of his lamp at the closing of his house, as there was a public lamp right opposite. The Chairman said that they could not make any exception. MIDNIGHT EXTENSIONS. Mr MoDevitt, of the Carlton Hotel, applied for an extension to midnight. The Chairman said after what had been told them by the law officers of the Crown they found that they had made a mistake in granting the license to eleven o’clock. Mr MoDevitt would be granted an extension to midnight. Mr John Neill applied for an extension to midnight for the Rising Sun. The Chairman said that the remarks made in Mr McDevitt’s case applied to this, and the extension would be granted to midnight, Mr MoDevitt applied for permission to use one room in the house as a Druid’s Lodge. The Chairman said that they could not grant a permit for any specified time. The applicant could get a permit every fortnight, signed by two members of the Committee. la reply to the Chairman, the Sergeant stated that the conduct of the homes in the district was unexoeptionally good. The Chairman said that in granting these midnight extensions the Committee trusted that the holders of licenses would take every precaution to carry on their homea in strict conformity with the law. This concluded the business, HEATHOOTE. The quarterly meeting of this Committee was held this day at noon. Present—Messrs H. A. Bamford (chairman), T. York, Q, Booth, A. Dunbar and J. W. Davis, TBANSFBB. Mr Longhrey applied for a transfer of the license of the Heathoote Arms Hotel from Robert Fenton to Edward George. The Chairman called Mr Lougbrey’s attention to the Act, which required that the application should be in duplicate. Now, this bad not been complied wiih. It was suggested that the duplicate of the application be lodged forthwith, but it was decided that as it was necessary twen'y-one days should elapse between the date of handing same to the clerk to the Commissioners and the quarterly meeting of the Oommitte, that the temporary transfer already granted to Mr George be extended till the next meeting of the Commissioners. An application for a midnight license was refused.
