LAWN TENNIS CLUB.
Tho second annual meeting of the Lawn Tennis Club wan held af the Commercial Hotel last evening at eight o’clock, Mr H. A. Scott in the chair. There was a good attendance.
Tho secretary read tho second annual report : —“ The committee, in presenting the second annual report to the members, have much reason to congratulate them on tho success the club has achieved. Since the last annual meeting the committee have laid down a third asphalt court, and have also made a permanent arrangement with the adjoining occupier for the exclusive use by members of a room at a rent of £lO per annum, which seems to be sufficient at present for the requirements of tho club. The club at present consists of seventy-nine members, exclusive of lady members. On reference to the hon. treasurer’s statement of accounts it will bo seen that the club have a balunse in hand of £27 I7s 9d, against whioh there is the necessary current expenditure of the club. The whole of the cost of levelling and fencing the ground and of construction of the courts has been paid for. The committee endeavored during tho last season to arrange for matches with other districts and towns in New Zealand, but owing to the inability of members of other c'ubs to come to Christchurch, their endeavors proved unsuccessful. Since the last annual meeting the committee have elected Mr T, D. Oondell as a member of committee in place of Mr L. Neville, who has left the oolony, and a vacancy in the post of hon. treasurer having occurred by Mr T. T. Wardrop leaving Christchurch, they accepted the services of Mr A. F. Blood in his place, who is, however, greatly to the regret of the committee, unable longer to fill the duties of that responsible post. In accordance with the rules, the whole of the committee resign, but (with the excepti.n of Mr J. B. Gresson, who has resigned owing to his being unable to attend to the duties of the office) they are re eligible. The committee suggest that the quorum necessary to constitute a committee meeting should be altered from four to three, as occasionally there is difficulty in getting the necessary number together. The thanks of the club are due to Mr W. G. Brittan for his kindness in auditing the accounts of the olnb.” The year’s receipts amounted to £202 3s; expenditure, £174 5s 3d ; credit balance, £27 17s 9d.
The report and balance-sheet w re unanimously adopted. It was resolved that at future meetings of ho committee three form a quorum. The election of officers resulted as follows : President, Mr E. C. J. Stevens ; vice-presi-dent, Mr H. A. Scott; secretary, Mr F, H. Bruges ; treasurer, Mr J. Gould ; committee. Messrs H. P. Lance, O. O. Oorfe, A- F. Blood, B. Mannering, F. Fenwick, —Ross, and T. D. Oondell. . It was resolved, on the motion of Mr F. H. Bruges, seconded by Mr A. F. Blood, "That ladies be allowed to play on the after noons of Monday and Wednesday in each week.”
After the transaction cf certain routine business, votes of thanks were accorded to tho secretary, treasurer, and auditor. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceeding#.
