The workmen in the iron trades are on atrikejfor advanced wages. A new line of sailing vessels has been established between Now York and Sydney. Sting, who won the Hawkosbury Handicap in the fastest time yet made for that race, run last in the County Purse two days previously. Racing people cannot understand it.

The Government have concluded a pro. visional agreement with Messrs Show and Blyth, on behalf of an Australian syndicate, for the construction of a railway on the land grant system. A land bonus of 10,000 acres per mile is to be granted. The Government is to be allowed the option of purchasing the line at half the cost price within six years. The land grants are to be in ten mile frontages. The total length of the line is about 250 miles. It is to be completed in three years.
