AGRICULTURAL & PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
An ordinary meeting of the oommittee of the above association was held at 2 p.m. yesterday in its rooms, Hereford street. Present—Messrs W. Henderson (president), J. E. Parker, W. Norman, J. Gilmour, J. Gebbie, P. Duncan, J. Deans, B. Sutherland, J. Ferguson, W. Boag, T. Bruoe, S. Garforth, P. Cunningham, and J. Anderson, Junr.
Accounts amounting to £205 16s 4i were passed for payment. Mr J. B. Hill, the late president, wrote resigning his membership on the committee, and stated that, whether he returned to the oolony or not, he would ever regard his connection with the association and the oommittee as among the pleasantest portions of his life, and with grateful thanks for the uniform oourtesy extended to him, and he hoped that the association and the oommittee would p'osper. Mr Neil Blaok wrote on behalf of the Canterbury Caledonian Sooiety, thanking the association for the use of its rooms. The letters were received.
Mr George Gray, Canterbury College, wrote, offering his services as analytical chemist to the association, and it was decided to refer the matter to a subcommittee.
The President reported that the work of fenoing tbe show ground was progressing satisfactorily under the supervision of Mr Jaoobsen.
The following gentlemen were ohosen to act as marshals at the forthcoming November show:—Sheep—Merinos, Mr John Gebbie ; English Leicesters, Mr H. J. Mathias; border Leicesters, Mr W. Newton ; Lincolns, Mr A. C. Ford; Romney Marsh, Mr D. Thomas ; Sonthdownß, Mr John Mann. Fat sheep— Mr J. Anderson, jun. Shorthorns—Mr S. Garforth. Herefords and other breeds—Mr J. Ferguson. Fat cattle—Mr J. Moßeth. Draught horses—Messrs H. |Mcllraith and James Wilkin. Blood and other stock— Messrs F. O. Tabart and W. A. Low. PigsMr H. B. Lane. Sheep dogs—Mr W. Norman. Implements—Messrs J, Gilmour and Job Osborne. Dairy produce and cured meats —Mr H. E. Alport. New Zealand manufactures—Messrs B Sutherland and E. 8. Harley. Wool—Mr J. A. Mcliraith. The Secretary stated that he had received replies from several gentlemen who had been solioited to aot as judges, but more answers must be forthcoming before the list oould be completed. Mr J. W. Overton was unanimously elected to the vaoaney on the oommittee caused by the retirement of Mr J. B. Hill. This oonoluded the business of the committee.
A general meeting of the members of the association was subsequently held. Twentyone gentlemen were present, Mr W. Henderson (president) in the ohair.
