SALE OF TROTTING HORSES.
The sale by Messrs H. Matson and Go. at the Forum, took place this day at 1 o'olook, I when there was a very large attendance, every part of the large building being crammed. Mr J. T. Mataon aioended the rostrum, and after dilating on the qualities of the horses and Mr Kerr's enterprise in bringing to New Zealand the pick of the trotters of Amerioa, aiked the audienee to look at the beauties before them, and to deal liberally with him, ai the horses not only had the breeding but the paoe. The first lot submitted was the bay stallion Irvington, which was bought in on owner's account by Mr MoLaren for 800 guineas. The next ta enter the ring was the dapple grey stallion Bill Allen, and this lot was pasted in at 6C3 guineas. The next horse to enter the ring was the bay stallion Oak Grove, which was passed in at 400 guineas. Oorbltt, a bay stallion, followed, and was returned to his box at 300 guineas. The two mares, Fanny and Lady Sylvia, came in the ring together, and were put up one with the option of both. After a little skirmishing of bids, they were passed in at 150 guineas eaoh. Mr Matson, in passing in the hones, remarked that the New Zealand publio were just beginning to learn the alphabet of trotting, and bad not yet gone beyond the A. 8.0. It is intended that the stallions shall be looated in various parts of the district, so that we may hope ere long, if not possessing the horses themselves in Canterbury, some of their progeny will remain to do a fast spin on the traok. Details of the sale are appended : Lot 1. Bay stallion Irvington, by Rysdyk's Hambletonian, one of the best hones that ever|stood in America.'and wheae service was SCO dollars. Irvington's dam Imogene is by Saely'e American Star. Eo« jhfc in at 800 gs. Lot 2. Bay stallion Oorbitt, coming 4 jrs, by Irvington, dam Minnie Patoben, by Geo. M. Patonen, jun.; Minnie Patohen being dam of some of the fastest horses in America. Bought in at 300 gs. Lot S. Bay stallion Oak Grove, ooming syrs, by Irvington, dam Lady Venture, by Belmont. Bought in at 400 gs. Lot 4. Dapple grey stallion, Bill Allen, by Sawyer's Messenger, dam by Captain Fisher, supposed to be the fastest colt of the day. Bought in at 6C3gs. Lot 5. Bay mare, Fanny, by Owen Dale, by Belmont. Bought in at 150 gs. Lot 6 Bay mare, Lady Silvia, by Jack Hawkins, jun., dam Orange Girl, by Ploughboy, by Harris' Hambletonian. Bought in at ISOgs.
