A CONTRAST.
To the Editor of the Globe. Sib, — The following figures, showing the cumber of arrests for drunkenness In the oily of Christchurch since the coming into force of the new Licensing Act, indicate very clearly one of the undesirable results of allowing public-houses to remain open till midnight. A comparison with the months of July and August for the years of 1880 and 1831 reveals an immense increase In the amount of drunkenness during the past two months.
Tfaete figure speak for themselves, therefore comment is unnecessary. Yours, &o, BPERO MBLIORA.
