CANTERBURY COLLEGE.
BOARD OP GOVERNORS. An ordinary meeting of this Board took place yeßterday afternoon. Present —The Most. Rev. the Primate, Rev. Ohas. Eraser, Messrs P. de O. Malet (in the chair), H. J. Tanered, J. iDglis, W. J. W. Hamilton, W. Reeves, H. R. Webb, I. W. Maude, and R. W. Pereday. The report of the College committee was read at follows : 1. The oommittee recommends the Board to appoiut Mr G. Watson master for extra work at the Boys' High School on the half holidays at a remuneration of .£7 par term. 2. The committee recommends the Board to appoint clas a singing and drill maaters at the Boys' High Schorl for one year from the commencement of the third term, 1882. 3. The committee recommends the rioard to appoint the musio teaohers at the Girls' High School for one year from the commencement of the third term, 1882. 4. The committee recommends the Board to authorise the committee to pay the sum of .£2419s to Dr. J. Von Haaat for transactions of the Koyal Society placed by him in the College Library. 5. The committee recommends the Board to authorise the committee to appoint an assistant master at the Boys' High School at a salary of .£250 par annum. The items weie considered serwtim. _ In referenoe to olanse 5, the Chairman stated that the appointment was rendered necessary by the large number of boys who were still in the lower olasßOß. If the Board sanctioned the proposal, there would then be employed six permanent masters and one who is only partially employed, while there are 126 students. The report was adopted. The committee of the Bohool of Agriculture recommended the Board to anthoriie the oommittee to appoint Mr B. A. Wauawright as lecturer on natural science to the Sohool of Agrioulture, trice Mr Kirk, re; signed, at a aalary of £3OO per annum,
The Chairman said that the gentleman named was now prinoipal of the Prince Alfred College, Adelaide, and had been selected for the position after carefnl consideration. _lt 1 was proposed to invite Mr Wainwrighfc to visit Canterbury before the appointment was finally conferred. The recommendation of the committee was agreed to.
This being all the business the Board adjourned.
