The G-overnment propose to adopt the works scheme as far as possible. Considerable discussion has arisen over the Baldwin oasf, in whioh the Premier was acoused of dismissing the head of the Sunbury industrial sohool, and favoring political partisans and countrymen. The statement was made in the Assembly, but was shown by the Ministry to have no foundation. The experiment of aerial o&bles in the streets, to inolnde ten telegraph wires, is boirig tried with success. An improvement of 40 per cent, is reported in the Ballarat and Sandhurst gold returns. Burns' recent trial for the Deep Lead murder was one of the most intricate heard here. The evidence was entirely oiroumstantial. On being acquitted Burns was arrested on another charge of murder committed at Wycliffe two years ago. It is rumored that there is a third case in South Australia. Mr White, the representative of South Australian farmers, is at present in this colony examining agriou'tural lands. He informed the Minister of Lands that upwards of a thousand farmers were prepared to leave South Australia, and bring with them capital varying from £2OO to £4OOO. The defensive works are rapidly approaohing completion. All the guns at Queonsoliff are mounted, and those for Swan Island are nearly so.

A rumor has gained ourrency that on a stormy night off the coast of New Zealand a sea struok the stern of the Nelson, flooding berto an inoonvenient degree. Mr Lucap, whose exorbitant claim in connection with the Darling Harbor land is notorious, sailed for England.
