UNIVERSITY OF NEW ZEALAND.
CANTERBURY COLLEGE. The presentation of diplomas and_ conferring degrees took place at noon this day in the new hall of the college, whioh has been reoently ereoted, a full description of which has already appeared in the GI.OBB. There was a very laTge attendance. At noon tho Chancellor of the University (Mr H. J. Tanored), the Tritr-ate, the Dean, Archdeacon Harris, Rev. C. Bowen, Professor Brown, Cook, Bickerton, and Hutton, Dr. von Hnaat, and the Fallows and Governing Body of Canterbury College took their seats on the dais. The Chancellor then called upon the Registrar to read the results of the year 1881. Mr W. M. Maskell read the remits of the work for the year 1881. Professor Hutton then introduced the following students to the Chancellor for the M.A. degree and first-class honors :—Mr C. A. Chilton, Mies K. E. Edger, Miss M. L F. ICdger, Messrs T. S. Foster, O. Innes, and J. R. Wilkinson. For B.A. degree, Mr Geo. Watson j for LL B. degree, Mr James Hay. Mr B. M. Oonnal (VIA. degree) and Mr : W. B. Douglas (B A. degree) were absent. < The Chancellor having conferred the various degrees then addressed the students at considerable length. Dr. Von Haast and Professor Brown also addressed the students. The Chancellor thanked those present for their attendance, after which Mr T. S. Foster called for three oheers for the Chancellor, the Professors, and the Governing Body of Canterbury College, whioh were heartily accorded, and tho MBemblj dispened,
