Cur markets during the past week were rather quiet, and the transactions effected have teen mostly of a sorting up nature. Stocks of many lines are running rather thort, owing to fha absence of several overdue ships, thereby causing some inconvenience. An improved enirniTy has been noticed fcr dried fruits, sales of •which have been effected more freely than formerly. Sugars shew some animation, and considerable basiness has eventuated for finest white crystals; medium qualities, though offered low, do not take so well, while yellows and browns are almost out of first hands, and in short supply. Teas of medium quality have had a little attention, but to effect sales only a flight margin over coat is obtaiuablo, competition from outside being r-.ther keen. Candles, Both De Bonhaix’s and Price’s, have be n freely quitted at low rates. Stocks are now getting more within season so better prices mar soon be looked for. Sales of tinned fish have been almost confined to salmon, other sorts being neglected, except sardines, which, being rather scarce, fetch high prices. A good business has been noted in Bottled stout at improved rates. Ale of fine condition being in short supply, is readily cleared off as soon as to hand. Brandy of medium quality meets wiih fair sales at up to 8s 6d. Bum is now firm at an advance on previous quotations, and Scotch whiskey has had a small notice, principally for Lome and other leading brands, wfcilo inferior sorts are neglected. Port wine of from medium to good quality has had a alight inquiry; other wines are unnoticed except clarets, which find a few buyers for the better sorts. The recent demand fee fencing wire has now somewhat slackened, and quotations are therefore easy at £ls 10a for assorted sizes. Galvanised iron, though offered low, fails to obtain much notice, stocks Being beyond present requirements.
