SOUTHBRIDGE FARMERS’ CLUB.

An adjourned meeting of gentlemen inin the formation of a Farmers’ Club Sonthbridge was held in Mitchell’s Royal on Thursday evening. About twenty gentlemen were present, Mr G. O. Waby occupying the chair. The Chairman, in opening the meeting, dilated on the benefits derivable from a club of the kind, if properly worked, ar.d stated that its future prosperity depended in a great measure in the manner in which it was started. The Chairman then stated that, in accordance with a reaolntion passed at the former meeting, he had written to the secretaries of the Kaiapoi and Amberley Clubs for information as to the general working of their olnbs, and he laid their replies on the table. He bod also received a copy of the rules of the Ellesmere Farmers’ Club, which be would ask some gentleman present to read. He might say that he thought them rather too stiff to be practical.' Mr J. B. Campbell, having read the rales through, the Chairman called on the meeting to give its views on the subject. Mr Houston thought a farmers' club ought to partake ►more of a political nature than was proposed, pnd gave some information aa to the working of farmers' clubs in Sonth Australia. Mr A. B, Inwood suggested that a sub-committee bo appointed to draft rules, and refer same to A -future general meeting. Mr .Houston

thought the matter ought to beleft in the hands of a general committee, say of six, each to draw up a set of rules, the rules of the club to be drafted from them at a general meeting. After a desultory conversation as to whether it had been definitely decided that the club be formed at the previous meeting, Mr J. J. Elwin proposed the following resolution:—“That those present to-night, together with those gentlemen who attended the previous meeting, on payment of 2a 6d, be the original members of the Southbridgc Farmers.’ Club, and such club be hereby formed.’’ Seconded by Mr John Campbell and carried unanimously. Mr A. B, Inwood proposed, and Mr John Campbell seconded — “ That a committee be appointed to draw up the rules of the club, such committee to congist of Messrs J. B. Campbell, G. 0. Waby, J, J. Elwin, John Storey, —Houston, and the mover, the draft to be brought up at the next meeting, to be held on the 31st August, for approval.” Carried, A vote of thanks to the chairman closed the meeting.
