BOARD OF HEALTH.

An ordinary meeting of this body wai held at their office a at 230 thi» afternoon. Present—Messrs W. Yiuosnt (in the chair), Jj. Harper, J. B. Parker and Dr. Doyle. Correspondence was read : —From Colonial Secretary’s office, re legislation concerning dairies, vaccination in schools, and registrar tion of deaths. The letter stated that such matters as could be dealt with by- existing regulations would receive the consideration of the Government. It was too late in the session for fresh legislation. From Mr fl. Adams, in respect to a report made to the St, Albans Borough Conncil as to damage said to be done to the road by the Carlton mill race. Mr Adama endorsed the report, and asked the Board to look into the subject. From the health officer, stating that the English price of carbolic acid was £3 12j per twelve gallon tins, and copperas 6a per owt He thought arrangements could be made to get these things supplied in Christchurch at a reasonable advance on Home prices. The report of the inspector of nuisances was road as follows : I b°g to report that ths notices served on the owners of land adjoining Mr Maling|s house at Eiocarton have not been complied with. A large quantity of water has been lot off by Mr Maling opening a drain through that part of the creek previously filled in by him, bat some stagnant water still remains, and the naisance is likely to continue, since stops are being taken by Mr Palairet, in compliance with notice, to fill in the creek in the same manner as Mr Maling has filled in the part running through his land. _ I think, therefore, that the owner the section (Mr Morten) nearest to Mr Maling s premises should fill up the section sufficiently to remove the remaining stagnant water, and prevent the recurrence of a nuisance in the future. .... I have understood my instructions to serve notices on owners to refer on'y to the owners of land in proximity to Mr Maling’s house, and not the whole length of the abandoned creek, from the station approach to the Biccarton road. . .
