KOWAI ROAD BOARD.

The regular meeting took place on Friday, Augmt 4th. Present—All the members. The accounts were audited and passed. Mr Thomas Hanna waited on the Board and asked for assistance in forming an approach to his section on Saltwater Greek and Mount Grey road. Granted 14ft of 9in pipes and £ll6a in cash. Mr Lough asked for assistance iu cleaning drain on Stanton and Hadler’s road. Granted, on the condition that he first clears the gorse, that the length does not exceed 35 chains of drain, and onehalf the cost of clearing the ditch be afforded by the Board, Mr Mcßride asked for an improvement on the Ashworth’s Bush road. The surveyor to see what is required and report to meeting. Mr Orchard asked for a road to bo closed between sections 11201 and 2320. The Board decided to advise Mr Orchard to formally apply in writing for the road to be closed through the Public Works Act. Mr Brodie wrote to ask for improvements on the road near his house, Mr Bristow and the surveyor to see Mr Brodie and ascertain exactly what is required. A petition was read from Mr Mathers and twenty others, asking for a road to be opened running between sections 1465, 1881,1292, 1386, The Board considered the road was not required. Hr Topp waited on the Board asking for assistance in clearing out twentyeight chains. The Board consented to find one half of the cost. Mr Vaughan asked for Stewart and Shaw’s road to be opened. The Board considered the work unnecessary. Mr Oliver wrote and asked for Broadfoot’s road to be repaired. The Board decided to do nothing until the summer, Mr Powell, ranger, gave one week’s notice of resignation of bis appointment of ranger. Accepted. A letter received from the traffic manager, informing the Board that means will be taken to prevent the recurrence of trains standing across the main Amberley street. A letter was received and read from Mr Buys on the tariff question. The chairman to reply. Mr Marehman to bo written to asking for gravel reserve to be made on the west side of section 89, ferry reserve. The ranger to be advertised for ;in the meantime the police to be applied to.
