LONDON, August 15, 8.30 a.m. The Marquis of Hartington, Secretary of State for India, in bringing down the Indian budget, said it would probably show a surplus of three millions. The salt duty is to be reduced, and the cotton duty abolished. To-day the statue of Daniel O’Connell was nnveiled in Dublin.

Earl Kimberley will probably announce in Parliament to-day the restoration of Cetewayo.

4.15 p.m. Sir Garnet Wolseley has arrived at Alexandria. Professor Jevons was drowned while bathing at Redhill. In the House of Commons to-day the Hon. A. E. Ashley, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, stated, in reply to a question, that the Government had decided to restore Cetewayo to the sovereignty of the Zulu tribes, hut that he would be required to receive British residents in his dominions, and that sufficient land would be reserved for those of the Znln chiefs and people who object to acknowledge the King’s authority.

The cricket match between the Australian team and eleven of Derbyshire was resumed at Derby to-day, when the visitors continned their first innings. There was again a large attendance of spectators during the day, although the weather was cold and inclement. The Australians remained at the wickets until the stumps were drawn, when the score stood at 158, with four wickets to fall. The wicket was net in good order, and the fielding of the Englishmen was weak. The principal scorers were—Murdoch, canght, 70; and Jones, bowled, 58; Horan scored 16, not out.
