OHBI9IOHCBOH. Wednesday, August 16. [Before C. Whitefoord, Esq., 8.M., and B. Westenra, Esq-, J.P.J Drunkenness. —John Brook, who had been disentangled from the legs of a horse, from which fee had fallen while drunk, was fined 10a, or forty-eight hours’imprisonment. For first offences a man and a woman were fined each 5a Mary Kennedy, alias Wallace, as an habitual drunkard, was sent to gaol for three months. Neglected Children. —John Bice, aged nine; George Bice, eleven ; Charles Melbarn, eleven ; Francis Welsted, twelve ; Peter Welsted, ten ; and Mary Welsted, fourteen, were brought up from Burnham, where their terms had expired. Their parents having been proved to the satisfaction of the Court to be unfit to have the control of them, they were re-committed—the boys till they reach their fifteenth years ; the girl till she reaches the age of twenty-one years, the master meanwhile to stand in loco parentis to her. Civil Oases. —Evans v Chapman, £23 9j 43, for rent and occupation, &o. Mr Gresson for plaintiff, Mr Joyce for defendant. Judgment for plaintiff for £lB Is 4d, with costs of Court and solicitor’s fee, £2 2s. Scott v Haskins, claim £34 9s, for wages as farm manager and board for defendant’s sons, Mr Harper for plaintiff, Mr Joynt for defendant. Plaintiff was nonsuited with costs. Barr, Johnston and Co. v U.B.S. Company. Mr Slater for plaintiff, and Mr Nalder for defendants. This was a claim for £3O 8s 3d, for damages alleged to have been done to a shipment of tin per s.s. Wakatipu, on a passage from Australia to New Zealand. Mr Nalder raised the objection that the suit should have been brought in Lyttelton. This was allowed, and plaintiffs were nonsuited, with costs. Matson and 00. v lanes, claim £39 14s 7d ; defendant tendered £37. Judgment was for plaintiff for £36 I4s 7d, with costs. Judgment went by default for plaintiff in Montgomery v Staples, £7O 8s 3d. Lewis v Beatty was adjourned till September 13tn.
