WELLINGIOH, August 14.
The following letter, published in tho 11 Evening Poet,” is wired at the request of Messrs Beelham and Steward, in consequence of soma contuiion as to pairs which occurred in tho division on Mr Montgomery’s amendmeat: —“ We dawn is necessary to state that Messrs Sutton and Whyte voted unde? tho following circumstances: Tho former conaiders that hia pair had lapsed, Mr Joyce, With whom he had paired, having returned, and having been informed by him that the pair was off. Tho pci? was also cancelled in both whips* books. Mr Whyte, who had been paired by Co plain Morris with Mr Holmes, misunderstood the matter. But Cor these ciroamctanocs, the division lists Should have shown the Government 40, Opposition 3G, mej srity for Government 4j " which is tho correct statement of the relative strength of parties on the question at issue— We are, &J-, Geo. Bbetham, Wm. J, Sxhwxbb.”
