Lucy Davoy, for being drunk and ueing obscene language, waa fined £l, or in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment with hard labor. Assault. —John Parker was charged with this offanoe. He had dragged out of her house a woman named Greaves, with whom he had been living, because she refused to allow him to make away with her property. He knocked her down, and kicked her severely when she was lying on the ground. A constable named Marg in, attracted by her cries, ran up and look him into custody. Accused, on his way to the look up, contrived to kick the constable in the faoe. He wes sentenced to two months’ imprisonment with hard labour. Alleged Fraud in Bankruptcy.—H. Q. Toaswill was brought up, on warrant issued in Dunedin, charged with having made a transfer of some his property with intent to defraud his creditors, Mr Stringer, who appeared for the prosecution, applied for a remand. Mr Joynt, for the accused, asked for some evidence to be led, so as to show that there was colorable reason for detaining or holding him to bail. P. C. Tabart, sworn, deposed that in May last he was a partner in the firm of H. Wilkin and Co. Accused went to him, and, on the strength of certain representations, induced witness to sell him 394 sheep, the conditions being that accused was to feed efi some turnips wish them, and then return them to witness for re-sale. The sheep v/ero not returned, and accused, though required, failed to account for their disposal. A statement of his affairs was fnr.fished to witness, but there was only one sheep shown as being in the possession of accused. An information was laid, and accused had been arrest d in Dunedin. Mr Joynt submitted that _ the evidence had nothing whatever to do with a fraudulent transfer, which was the charge. He had no objection to a remand, but thought accused should be released on bis own recognisances. After some ditcassion, accused was remanded till Thursday, August 17th, bail being allowed, himself in £2OO and two sureties each iu £IOO.
