In the House of Commons to-day. Sir Charles Dilke, Under - Secretary for Foreign Affairs, stated in reply to a question. that the Porte was now ready to conclude the military convention with England to regnlate the joint operations of Turkish and English troops in Egypt. The embarkation of various regiments undor orders for service in Egypt is now nearly completed. Transports are being despatched daily for the East. ALEXANDRIA, August 10.
H.R.H. the Duke of Connaught, who is in command of one of the brigades of the British expeditionary force, and General Sir John Adye, chief of the staff, arrived here to-day. The British Agent-General, Sir E. B. Malet, has also arrived here.

The Hon. Mr Gladstone has stated that it is impossible to rest on the status quo ante helium, and that the prolonged occupation of Egypt is nndesirable. Canards are afloat that Russia had offered help to Turkey.

LONDON, August 11, 7.20 a.m. The Duke of Connaught has paid a visit to the Khedive, and re-assured him as to the intentions of England. An inquiry into the effect-of the bombarding of Alexandria is sitting. An American man-of-war is expected at Alexandria in a few days. Eight of the wounded in the recent engagement have died of their wounds. It is reported that the natives of Tripoli are menacing the safety of the European inhabitants.
