The Union Steamship Company’s Wanaka arrived from Dunedin yesterday at a.m., and 'left for Wellington at 3 p.m. Mendoza., Avanti, and Eangitiki have OOmpletedsJgndiDg their inward cargoes. The last-named has commenced to load. Attention has before besn called to the inconvenience passengers by the Union Company’s steamers are subjected to frequently in consequence of what to everybody appears to bo a very, inopportune custom some masters have of "turning their vessels round head to sea before landing their passengers. An instance in point occurred yesterday. The Arawata’s passengers were put ashore just in time to see the 4.30 p m. train leave Port. After being twenty-four hours exposed to a southerly gale they not unreasonably considered keeping them for half-an-honr almost within stepping distance off the whaif ■while the steamer was being pnt in readiness for her departure the next day a hardship. The complaint, though seemingly a trivial one, is 0(00 not infrequently fraught with considerable Inconvenience to passengers, to whom missing a particular train is an important matter.
