CHARITY SUNDAY.
We feel sure all will cordially endorse the action taken by Mr Ick, the chairman of the Benevolent Association, in arranging for a Charity Sunday in connection wiih the various churches in aid of the funds of the Benevolent Association. The idea, as perhaps many of onr readers are aware, is carried out most successfully in London, many o£ the manufacturing towns of England, and in Melbourne, in connection with the Hospitals. That the Association on whose behalf it is projected to make the appeal is deserving of the warmest support of all cannot be denied for one moment, and we hope that it will be heartily responded to. It must be horns in mind that the Government contribute pound for pound on all sums collected by public subscription or donations, so that it will be seen that, if the people of Christchurch do their duty on this occasion, a very goodly sum will be realised. The report, recently presented of the Association, shows that a very large amount of distress which has to be relieved exists here. Besides, the cases of distress are many of them what may be termed chronic; like the poor wa read of, they are always with ns. Hence it is necessary for the public to assist by coming to the fore on the Sunday, or Sundays, which may be selected for tha benefit of the institution.
