Noticing the occurrence a Melbourne exchange says Tha Gatfield is 2250 tons register, and the output of her cargo will bo up to 4400 tons, or close on double her register The Garfield is a high-priced ship, and-the builders, Messrs Harland and Wolff, of Belfast, are famed for tha unexceptionable work which they turn out. The magnificent steamships of the Atlantic white Star line were built at their yard. The steel ship Lord Downsbire is almost • sister vessel to the Garfield, and was built at the same yard. The former however is a fourmasted vessel, and the question of the utility cf four masts as against three for large sailing ships has not yet been definitely settled. The Ijord Downshire, it is said.
