VALUE OF FARMS.
WOITDEBFTO INOBEABE IN TWSNTY TBABS. The following summary shows the extraordinary growth in the valuation of the forms of the United States, in so brief a period as only twenty years : Dolt, 1860—Census total valuation - 3,271,575,426 1870—Census total valuation • 9,262,803.861 1880—Census total valuation - 10,197,161,905 It is to be noted that 1870 was a time of -great inflation in the estimated valuation of all landed property, under a depreciated paper Currency, and at an era of high speculation ; while in 1880, after a long period of great depression, real estate had hardly begun to feel the large improvement in the money Talue of almost everything. Probably a fairer estimate of the gold valuation of the forms would bo like this 1860 - - 3 271.576,426 dels, 1870 • • 6,000,000,000 dels. 1880 - - 10,197161,905 dols, 1883 - over 12,000,000,000 dols. Indeed, if wo allow for the very largo hrsadth of wild land changed into farms daring two years past, and the rapid increase iu value per acre in the leading agricultural States like Ilionoie, lowa, &c., the present valuation will hardly fall short of fifteen billion dollars, and the increase in round trillions of dollars in twenty-two years would range something like this :—IB6O, three ; Jn 1870, six to seven ; in 1880, ten ; in 1882, fourteen.
