Trade during the past week in moat lines has been rather dull, and in spite of the tempting nibbles offered to secure buyers, the sales effacted have been only Bufficieat to supply actual requirements. There hare been no arrivals to import, and some inconvenience is thereby experienced from the want of several articles out cif stock. A fair business has been done in sugars, but at prices mostly in favor of buyers ; it is probable that the absence of shipments for some time will shortly harden quotations. Teas have had small sales at good prices for fine sorts, s.ni doubtless on the arrival of shipments shortly due mora business will eventuate. Dried fruits far the season hive been somewhat neglected, and only a few trifling sales of currants at 5f 1 are noticed. Musoatel raisins, however, continue in such short supply that any parcel obtainable fetches extreme rates. Kerosene has been freely offered at low figures without leading to muoh business; an inquiry for ualmon has shown that stooka are not beyond requirements, bat quotations do not improve, nod remain at 8s t»d. Lobsters have lately heen more freely quitted, but only at low rates. Cocoa, both Van Houten's und Fry'B, hava improved sales. Candles find buyers more freoly than formerly, but sales of imported lots Buffer from competition with the local article, which latterly has much improved. Stocks of ale and stout being rather low sales are more easily effected at good rates. Spirits have had but little buainess. and that principally for Scotch and Irish whiskey. A small enquiry has been noticed for rum, which is "ouad ts bo but lightly held. The late demand for champagne and claret has considerably -el srra'aea, while port wine of from medium to fins q-ality shows improved enquiry. Sales of tobacco have been almost confined to twist and aailrod, a* the prioe required for fancy sorts is so extreme as to be almoai prohibitory. Cement has been forced off in large lots at low rates The same npp'iai to galvanised iron, bat in a lesser degree. Fencing wire, both plain and barbed, con'iaues to have good sales at improved rates.
