ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

An ordinary meeting of the Council of the above society 'v?as held yesterday at the Commercial Hotel, at 330 p.m. Present— Messrs T. Aclsad (in the ohair), Bridges, H» B. Webb, Dr. Brittin and 8. 0. Parr (hon. secretary). Heveral acocunts were passed for payment. The Secretary reported the receipt of £2B Is, fees and fiaes, &j., from the Government and other sources. The Secretary also stated the result of an interview with the Premier and oth'r members of the Government at Wellington, ra the oare and breeding of ferretP; that ho had since received a telegram from the Color-iarSeoretary authorising the erection o£ a house at the Acclimatisation Gardens, at a oast not exceeding £45, in which the ferrets could be pissed. The number of ferrets in possession of the Government were stated to be about twenty. D<?. Brittin suggested that the floor of the house should bo of concrete or asphalts, to as to allow of its being readily cleaned, and also to prevent their escape. EXr E. B. Bishop wrote suggesting that the cider duck might be profitably introduced into tho South Island. Beforring thereto, the Secretary said the Governmant did not consider the proposed step a desirable one at ; present. The secretary of the Poverty Bay Acclimatisation Society wrote asking the price of young trout, prairie hens, Nevada quail, and hares, and if the society could supply any of them, or give information as to where they could be procured. The seoretary stated he had replied giving the neoessaTy information, so far as trout and har?s were oonoerned. The seoretary of theHawke's Bay Acclimatisation Sooiety wrote asking for a supply of frogs and toads for the purpose of insect destruction in gardens. It was stated there wero none in the sooiety*s gardens. . Mr T. 8. Duncan wrote asking the society to grant him some ground trout. It was stated the request could not be complied with. The secretary reported ho had reoeived an application for 5000 trout ova from Masterton, which he took with him on his trip north, and delivered some in good condition. He also stated the hatohlag boxes in the gardens were full. He had made certain suggestions as to additions, and amendments in the i Fisheries Bill, of which the Colonial Sacrajtisry had taken cognizance. < Xhis wes all tfie business.
